Focus of ’15

So we are 7 days into the new year of 2015! Have you given up your new year’s resolution yet?  This year I didn’t make any resolutions because well I suck at follow through.  I am more of a week by week goal setter- I tend to want to do big things but get caught up in the daily, weekly task of just living and boom my big goal is dead.

So as I was reading Brittney’s post about 2015 I really liked what she used to talk about 2015- focuses.  It got me thinking “What do I want to focus on in 2015?” Well here it is!

Move A LOT more

I know, I know  such a common focus for everyone!  Lately we have been awful about working out- I have gone on runs but there hasn’t been a strength workout in my week in quite some time.   I want to build working out into my life like it once was and not just a “if I have time I’ll fit it in thing” I still haven’t quite figured out actually HOW to do this but I am determined.

My plan for action is to plan it by week. I realize that I won’t be able to get up every morning at 4am to work out (I could but I’m lazy) and some nights are booked, others are free just plan it by week and MAKE IT happen.

Cook & Document

We really do like cooking at home! I think with D working nights for so long I thought that cooking had to be this big huge thing. I would pick these crazy hard recipes that need 16 pots and the mess we would make while cooking was awful. I just didn’t want to do it, so we got into a bad habit of eating outside of the house. No good.  Lately we have been cooking at home, I make a menu of really good food and then I cook it.  Simple.

I have found that planning is the ONLY way we actually eat at home.  And by we planning I mean me planning by taking time to write a menu and get groceries.  Then stick to the plan . My husband will grill or help with whatever I ask but I realize I have to be the driving force behind eating at home.  We often would get caught up in the “but wings sound sooooo good” and would go out. That has stopped!

While I would love my grandmothers ability to make a meal out of whatever is in the pantry that just isn’t me. I like planning and of course we have thrown together meals but they are more like soup I made earlier then froze or a really simple dish that I always keep ingredients on hand to make.  ß This is planning see I am planning to not have anything to cook : )

I am obsessed with food photography and want to really start making more wonderful dishes at home then showing them off.

Organize the Ford House (and keep it that way)

Our house is a DISASTER, I am not sure if it is because D and I both are somewhat messy or what. We might also be a little bit hoarder and it needs to stop.  I mean the house is clean, but I swear we have more crap in closets, drawers and random places. Our master closet looks like a 17 year old girl that can’t pick out an outfit lives there.

When we moved in with each other it was slowly not like a big move let’s get organized.  D had a broken leg and I was on the road ALL the time. So I would grab whatever I could find at my apartment and moved it to D’s week by week.   This does not make for ANY type of organization. ß some of my stuff is still in boxes in the garage, we are coming up on 2 years.   Yeah, I suck.

So I have a list of things we are going to do to clean out, give away and organize the house.

Plan for achievement? Well first I am currently working on a blog post about this but I guess it all goes back to planning (do we see a theme?)  Each week I want to tackle one project.  There are bigger projects that D will need to be a part of and might take two weeks– our garage is  a MESS.  Weekends D works are also prime time for me to tackle those projects that will take time. More to come on how we are doing soon!

Work on Goal setting & Follow Through

I am excellent at ideas.  Then a marathon of Family Guy comes on and I am useless.  A focus is really going to be sitting down each month and setting a goal (maybe two small goals) for each week.

They can be something that relate to my larger focus (clean out master closet) or something small like take time to do something extra special for D this week.  I want to break down my big dreams into smaller more manageable tasks.  Then I don’t feel overwhelmed or stress when those big goals don’t happen.

There ya have it! The year of Focus in Fifteen!
